The Catalinbread CBPAINT is a lush and highly adaptable reverb pedal inspired by the iconic late-1980s digital rack unit, the Alesis Microverb, a groundbreaking piece of gear that helped bring studio-quality reverb into more accessible formats. CB Paint pays homage to that era by carefully recreating some of the Microverb’s most memorable and characterful patches, while adding modern refinements for today’s pedalboard workflows. It features six carefully selected original-style reverb programs, including classic gate and reverse effects, paired with updated controls such as Mix, adjustable low-pass filtering, and an innovative Onset parameter that controls the delay before the reverb bloom appears after the dry signal.

Tone

Controls a 2-pole low-pass filter for softening high peaks, working just like a tone control. Up is bright, down is dark.

Mix

This control dictates how much 'dry signal' (whatever you feed into the CB Paint) is heard versus the 'wet signal' (the sound of the CB Paint itself). At minimum, the only thing you will hear is whatever you run into the pedal. At maximum, you will hear just the reverberated signal.

Onset

Otherwise known as 'pre-delay', this controls how long the reverb kicks in after playing. At minimum, the CB Paint will operate like every other reverb—the sound is instantaneous. At maximum, the reverb takes ~200ms to kick in. In gate mode, Onset controls the gate time. In reverse mode, Onset controls how much smearing there is on the reverse sound to make it sit in the mix a little better.

Mode

An 8-way selector with classic Microverb patches. Modes 1-6 expand room size and decay, mode 7 provides gated reverb, and mode 8 offers a unique reverse-style reverb effect.

Power Supply

The CB Paint accepts a center-negative power supply capable of supplying 9VDC with at least 63mA of current (over 63mA is fine). Anything beyond these specs (center-positive, AC, etc) will cause the CB Paint to not function properly (best case) or brick (worst case). Using an incorrect power supply (center-positive or AC) may damage the pedal and void the warranty.
