This thermostat uses a bimetallic strip as the temperature-sensing component. During normal operation, the bimetallic strip remains in a free state, and the contacts are closed or open. When the temperature reaches the set point, the bimetallic strip heats up, generating internal stress that causes it to rapidly actuate, opening or closing the contacts to break or complete the circuit, thereby controlling the temperature.
